Romans 911
The Mission to convert the Jews.
Many Christians believe in a widespread conversion of the Jews to Christianity, which they often consider as an end-time event. Some Christian denominations consider the conversion of the Jews imperative and pressing, and as a result they make it their mission to proselytize among them.
The biblical basis for this expectation is found in Romans 11:25–26a:
“I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved… (Romans 11:25-26a NIV).”
The meaning of Romans 11:25-26a has been disputed. Douglas J. Moo calls Romans 11:26a “the storm center in the interpretation of Romans 9–11 and of New Testament teaching about the Jews and their future.” (Moo, Douglas J. (1996). The Epistle to the Romans. Eerdmans. p. 719.) Moo himself interprets the passage as predicting a “large-scale conversion of Jewish people at the end of this age” (Moo, p. 724.) through “faith in the gospel of Jesus their Messiah”.(Moo, p. 726.)Wikipedia:Conversion of the Jews
The Typology of Midian
Anyone who sets to destroy the nation of Israel from keeping the Law by indirect means is placed squarely into the typology of Midian. Midian was a nation that was completely aware of the power of God and was aware of the events surrounding the nation of Israel; the miracles of Egypt, for example. How were they aware? They were direct witnesses to the plagues and miracles surrounding the Exodus. Thus they were aware that direct military action against the Jews would always fail. This was shown in prophecy later both express and implied; No nation would ever be able to succeed in a direct military effort to destroy the nation of Israel. So, in collusion with Moab (and by way of explanation, Amalek, and likely Egypt) Midian sent prostitutes into Israel for the sole purpose of pulling them away from keeping the law and being able to remain ritually pure. Even the act of marriage was done in order to entice them away from keeping the Law; for the women would entice them away into foreign religions (ex. in the manner of Solomon).
In the manner of Solomon
See: Idolatry.
1 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;
2 Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
…1 Kings 11:1-11 (KJV)
For more information see Davidic Covenant ex. 2 Chronicles 6:16 “…if only your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.'”
Idolatry typologized as Prostitution
Drawing away into foreign worship was typologized as prostitution not least because of the actions of Midian. See: Idolatry.
Setting themselves against God
In full knowledge of the salt covenant – for all generations – forever – the Christians have a mission to convert all Jews away from worship of Hashem, by keeping the Law improperly or by other indirect means. There are several hard failsafes for the Christian proposition in the Torah; see Idolatry.
