Christians will claim that Isaiah 65:15 is about the Jewish people and Christians, claiming that the Jewish people were replaced in by the Christian people; similar to the argument that God divorced the Jews.

15 You shall leave your name to my chosen for a curse, and the Lord God will put you to death, but his servants he will call by another name,Isaiah 65:15 (ESV)

Of course, the problem with this is that it is a cherrypicked reading which does not match up with the immediate context of the verse. Looking back, Isaiah 65:1-12 is talking about the idolaters in northern israel; ex. v.7 “…because they made offerings on the mountains and insulted me on the hills, I will measure into their lap payment for their former deeds.” Another way to look at it is to extend the context back even further to Isaiah 64 and earlier and read v.6 “Behold, it is written before me: 'I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will indeed repay into their lap…” as a response to Isaiah 64:12 “Will you restrain yourself at these things, O Lord? Will you keep silent, and afflict us so terribly?”

Christians will point out that in fact, the context states that all the nation of Judah had become unclean (Isaiah 64:6-7). Thus, the context is obviously that the Jewish people will pass away and be replaced by the Christians. And yet, even the verse itself which they claim states this indicates it is not talking about Judah! v,15 “…and the Lord God will put you to death,…” never happened to Judah, but to northern israel.

Thus we have a conundrum; we need to determine who precisely is Isaiah talking about? Israel or Judah?
