<title>Exegesis Exhibit A</title>
This article is a collection of verses used to show first principles of Exegesis from Sola Scriptura (Pashat in Jewish Exegesis).
Not Exhaustive
This is NOT an exhaustive list of passages. We are just going for a comprehensive but not exhaustive picture. For example we don't do anything with Jeremiah 14:14 re: God sending false prophets, because we have several other passages about God sending false prophets. We did include Hosea 12:10, because we wanted to show that God would send true prophets, not just false ones (also see Amos 13:9). Please feel free to suggest a verse that may belong on this page or on Exegesis!
And the Lord said to me: “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds. –Jeremiah 14:14 (ESV)
So, Ezekiel 14, Zephaniah 1, 1 Kings 9:8, Jeremiah 16:10, etc.. are of course known but just not included for the sake of brevity. Matthew 7:15 for example not being quoted for example because it is the same message as Matthew 24:11. If you feel we've missed out including an important passage, please let us know and we'll include it.
Not Fully 'Pashat'
…neither is it fully Pashat. That means we don't use a verse like Zechariah 8:16 and then turn and say, since we were created in the image of God, that implies God himself always seeks to speak the truth. But instead we say there is some validity to it because God says he hates 'those things'. Please suggest any obvious pashat readings we missed on Exegesis!
“These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; do not plot evil against each other, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this,” declares the Lord. –Zechariah 8:16-17 (NIV)
List of Verses

Note, that I've been experimenting with comparing different translations recently; Especially the KJV and RSV. I may include one or more other translations; in general I think you will see how little difference there is in meaning between the translations, yet there is still the feeling, the readability, etc. to consider.

So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee. | 5 That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. So you shall purge the evil from the midst of you. |
