Evolution versus Creationism
One of the major problems which people who hope to use 'Evolution' (or science in general) to discredit Evolution is they automatically assume that Evolution is at odds with Creationism.
This is not true at all; in fact AronRa himself (seen in a Response to AronRa) admits that in fact there is no real conflict between evolution and creationism, and in fact many prominent scientists have been creationists. Leaving that can of worms aside, and given the resulting low polemic value of this debate in general, let us gather a few talking points.
The Earth Is Not 6,000 Years Old
The bible does not say the earth is 5,000 or 6,000 years old. The bible in Genesis starts recording human history from about 5,500 years ago – but does not indicate how much time had passed before the creation of Adam and Eve.
Literal Reading of "Seven Days"
The idea that God created the universe in “Six Days” or “Seven Days” is a gross misreading of Genesis 1. In particular, before the Earth, Sun and Moon were created in Genesis 1:14-15, we read
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.Genesis 1:4-5 (KJV)
Therefore the idea that there were literal mornings and evenings is a misread. The idea is that there were distinct phases of creation which were grouped together by God, but how long these times lasted is unknown. If one assumes that science is true, then each day may have varied from hundreds of millions to even tens of billions of years or more.
Other minor misreads
As they come up I will place here other minor misreads esp. regarding apparent contradictions between the two accounts of creation.
